Hermes

Editorial workflow, production tracking and DOI registration for university presses — books and journals, print and online, in one system.

What it is

The university press's operating system.

Hermes covers the path from author submission to distributed publication: submission intake, peer review (single- or double-blind), copyediting, typesetting and proofs, production tracking, DOI registration through standard DOI registrars or data DOI registrars, and direct distribution into the discovery layer and external aggregators. The same engine handles a monograph imprint and a quarterly journal.

Academic publishing tends to accumulate tools: one system for submissions, another for review, a third for production, a spreadsheet for the DOI register and an email thread for the rest. Hermes replaces the chain with one workspace — and keeps an audit trail across every step.

Three jobs Hermes is designed for

Submission to distribution, end-to-end.

Editorial workflow

Configurable per imprint or series. Author portal for submission and proof approval; reviewer assignment with single- and double-blind options; editor desk with full audit trail.

Production tracking

Copyediting, typesetting, proofs, version control. work-expression-manifestation catalog so a work, its expressions and its manifestations stay distinct.

Distribution

DOI registration through the standard DOI registrars, standard journal article export, distribution into the institution's discovery layer and external aggregators.

Works with

The press inside the platform.

Run the press, not three different tools.

Submission, peer review, production, DOI registration, distribution. One engine for books and journals, print and online. The press runs as one workflow, end to end.
